Why Group Therapy Matters for Postpartum Depression
The transition into motherhood can be beautiful, but it can also be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally exhausting. For many new moms, postpartum depression brings feelings of sadness, anxiety, disconnection, or shame at a time when they expected to feel joyful. Group therapy can be a powerful source of healing because it reminds mothers they are not alone. In a supportive group setting, women can share their experiences, gain practical tools, and find comfort in being understood by others who are walking through similar challenges.
At Counseling4Life, we believe new moms need care, connection, and space to process both the joys and struggles of postpartum life. Our postpartum group is led by Ashley Villarreal, who is trained in postpartum recovery and understands the unique emotional needs of mothers during this season. With compassionate guidance, group members can build resilience, reduce isolation, and move toward healing in a safe and supportive environment.
In addition to professional support, there are small, meaningful ways new moms can care for themselves during this season:
Stay connected, even in small ways. Text a friend, invite someone over, or attend a group—connection helps counter isolation.
Lower the bar and prioritize rest. Focus on what truly matters (you and your baby) and release pressure to “do it all.”
Share what you’re feeling. Whether with a therapist, partner, or trusted friend, naming your experience is a powerful step toward healing.
Counseling4Life is offering a postpartum group coming up in April, as well as a 4th Trimester Retreat for moms and couples who want to emotionally and mentally prepare for their new arrival. Both opportunities are designed to support growing families with encouragement, education, and meaningful connection during this important transition.
